At present, I work as Principal Fund Manager/Front Office Manager for a private firm, where I’ve worked for two decades. During this time, I’ve studied many subjects, both in the US and abroad, and completed my first Ph.D. in 2014. I am still doing post-graduate work, with no plans to stop.

Everything here is free. If you enjoy my work, please consider tipping. Thanks!

Some more about Avery:

My name is Avery (my Americanized — and preferred name). I’ve spent time working on and off Wall Street for decades, with the majority of my career spent with a highly successful private firm.

I’ve worked in many positions from advisory roles, to chief of equity research, to behavioral investment counselor, portfolio manager, and fund manager. My parents were born in China, Jamaica, and Europe. I was born in China, but live in the US and am an American citizen. I identify as Chinese and Black/mixed, and most of my family in America is black/Jamaican or mixed. If anyone cares.

I’ve always loved capital markets, particularly equities and futures, with an interest in behavior, adaptability, and evolution. I have a passion for portfolio and index construction, and employing academically-researched factors and proprietary tools to craft forward-thinking portfolios and index methodologies. I believe, strongly, that markets are constantly evolving and adapting. As a racial and gender minority in finance, I also believe in diversity, whether its portfolio diversity, or diversity of thought. I also think retail investors are often kept in the dark, pay too much in hidden costs, and are subjected to a tremendous amount of misleading and unnecessarily distracting information online. I hope to be a panacea for all of that.

I believe in investing for the long-run, but I also like to have fun with (very small) personal accounts to satisfy my trading urges. In short, I like to do everything I can think of. I try to use all the tools retail traders use, and have more brokerage accounts than I can remember.

Thanks for visiting and reading about my background. I appreciate all of you very, very much.

—Avery

I’m not currently comfortable charging for this Substack, and while I may decide to some day, I prefer to keep things free of charge. I’ve spent my entire life paying down family/school debt, rather than compounding wealth. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have to stoop to taking tips. At least I don’t charge a subscription fee!

I enjoy sharing with all my subscribers, and want to arm you with all the information and data possible to help you achieve your goals, and provide for yourself and loved ones.
